SOMETHING ABOUT DOWN SYDROME…
Happy World Down
Syndrom Day!
“Down syndrome or Down's syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is caused by the presence of all or part of the third copy of chromosome 21.[2] It is usually associated with physical growth delays, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and characteristic facial features.[1] The average IQ of a young adult with Down syndrome is 50, equivalent to the mental ability of an eight- or nine-year-old child, but this can vary widely.[11][8]
The parents of the affected individual are usually genetically normal.[12] The probability increases from less than 0.1% in 20-year-old mothers to 3% in those of age 45.[3] The extra chromosome is believed to occur by chance, with no known behavioural activity or environmental factor that changes the probability.[13] Down syndrome can be identified during pregnancy by prenatal screening followed by diagnostic testing or after birth by direct observation and genetic testing.[5] Since the introduction of screening, Down syndrome pregnancies are often aborted.” - Wikipedia
“Down syndrome, the third chromosome on the twenty-first pair, is a genetic disorder that marks people in several segments of their lives.
This is what we know!
Love - their love is immeasurable, different, indescribable. Their "I love you" has no gaps, no uncertainties, no ambiguities. The love they give and receive has no limits, knows no differences, leaves no doubt. Happiness - in small things, in everything that we have forgotten that exist, in everything that gives meaning to our lives. "Oh look" - the sunrise, the wind at sea, the bird on the branch, life is all about those small but big things in our lives. Smile - for everyone, smile because it's funny, smile because someone needs it, smile because there is no reason but it brings happiness. A hug - because we love to hug, because a hug heals, because a hug is the most beautiful gift…
Down syndrome, on the margins of our society, with very few opportunities for self-realization, needs our support to achieve goals and dreams. Every year we celebrate World Day, wear different socks and until next year we forget about everything that’s been said.
Please support diversity, embrace diversity - we all need to grow by learning from each other…
