Trstenik is a small fisherman village set tight amongst the hills of the Pelješac peninsula. This is one of the most famous areas for vineyards and wineries in Croatia, and some of Croatia’s most renowned top-quality wines are produced here. Pelješac is also home of the famous Zinfandel sort taken from this area to Napa Valley.
One of the most famous Californian winemakers Grgich was born in Croatia. When his daughter returned from the USA she started running a winery in this village. Follow the road up the hill to visit it and taste some marvellous wines from this area (open daily 9-17 h only in high season). Another small wine cellar in the village, worth visiting is the one owned by Family Živkušić, who will be happy to welcome you and show you their products like the local wine “Plavac mali”. Note that the wineries might be closed in the afternoon hours in pre and post-season.
In this wonderful wine region, stumbling upon a bottle of bad wine is quite impossible. Some of the most renowned wine producers are Grgich, Matuško, Miličić, Vukas, Madirazza, Korta Katarina, Antunović and others, but even the smallest producers make good wines. Most famous grape sort is Plavac Mali and the most famous wines produced from this sort are Dingač and Postup.
Located on the captivating Dalmatian coast, Trstenik awaits with its clear waters, sun-soaked vineyards, and coastal allure. Dive into azure depths, indulge in local wines, and savor Mediterranean flavors in this hidden gem. Whether lounging on serene beaches or exploring its rich history, Trstenik offers an unforgettable escape along Croatia's picturesque shoreline.
