Lošinj

Due to its excellent climate, Lošinj was proclaimed a climatic health resort by a decree of the Ministry of Health of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy in 1892. Soon it became a popular holiday destination of the Austrian-Hungarian aristocracy, who built numerous villas and summer residences on the island. Losinj archipelago is famous for dolphins, which you will probably see during your cruise.


Dolphins -1987 a team of the Research Institute Tethys started a long research of the biology, ecology and social structure of the community of bottlenose dolphins that colonize the sea around the islands of Cres and Losinj. Today these dolphins are one of the best-explored groups in the whole Mediterranean. 

  • Church of St. Martin from 1450, situated in the town graveyard, where you can read the history of Lošinj from the tombstones.
  • Parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin and the piazza from 1696-1775. It is a three-nave church with relics of St. Romulus and a painting of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the altar.
  • Mali Lošinj Gallery and Piperato’s collection of old masters and A. V. Mihičić’s art collection
  • The Lošinj Aromatic Garden – a nursery of the island medicinal herbs in Mali Lošinj.

Accompanied by a qualified guide, visitors can find out about the rich island flora, the medicinal properties of the island plants and buy an original island souvenir. 
 

RESTAURANTS: All over the island there are restaurants, taverns and other catering establishments, where you can enjoy international dishes and national specialities, as well as local island specialities.
