LABOUR DAY
We sincerely wish all employees in all sectors a happy Labour day, grateful for their selfless contribution to all segments of our lives and existence
In the inhumane conditions of the 18th century, the culmination of resentment, fatigue, and rage of the labour force occurred.
On May 1st, 1886, about 40,000 workers protested in Chicago, highlighting demands symbolized in 3 eights: 8 hours of work, 8 hours of rest, and 8 hours of cultural education. Police intervened with weapons, killed six and wounded about 50 workers. A large number of protesters were arrested and strike leaders were brought to justice. Five were sentenced to death and three to long prison terms. It all happened just 136 years ago.
In commemoration of this bloodshed, it was decided that workers' protests would be held on May 1 each year. In the following year, 1890, this date became the International Day of General Solidarity of Workers, in which it sought to point out existing problems, fight for their rights and at the same time point out human dignity. In Croatia, too, Labor Day began to be celebrated in 1890. Where Croatian workers also pointed out the demands in the sign of three eights.
The symbolism of May 1st actually goes or should go towards solidarity with the more modest and the poor, the right to honest work and the possibility of living as a worthy man.
We sincerely wish all employees in all sectors a happy Labour day, grateful for their selfless contribution to all segments of our lives and existence!
