See you - Vidimo sE

18-07-2024

Looking at the challenges faced by children with Down Syndrome, members of the Association for Down Syndrome - Rijeka 21 felt compelled to do something to create a better future for their children and all members. That is why they came up with the Vidimo sE project, which is focused on people with Down syndrome but also aims to benefit the wider community of people with disabilities.

The project has several important goals, including promoting inclusion, raising awareness about people with disabilities, especially those with Down syndrome, and celebrating diversity. Creating an environment where people recognize and appreciate the values and dignity of individuals with Down syndrome is the ultimate goal of the project.

The visuals of the project convey its message - "See you" (the direct translation of "Vidimo sE)- which represents the desire to see individuals with Down syndrome included in every aspect of life, whether it is at school, work, the theatre, or the playground. The letter “E” has a fourth dash that alludes to the extra chromosome individuals with Down syndrome have. It symbolizes diversity, the beauty of diversity, and the message that it is okay to “be different” - because ultimately we all are.

Over time, the project has evolved, after a photo exhibition, hairstyle and fashion shows, and the creation of soaps and t-shirts, this year Rijeka 21 created a picture book and a song.

Hear the song - Vidimo sE!

The picture book features children's literary and illustration work and is accompanied by the song "vidimosE," created by a partner music school. The students of Prirodoslovna i grafička škola (School for Natural science and graphics), with the support of their mentors, have also played a vital role in preparing, processing, and printing the picture book.

Promoting inclusion can be a challenging journey. Society has a long history of stigmatizing diversity and viewing inclusion as a privilege rather than a fundamental right. With the support of partners, the members of Rijeka 21 are making progress. The "Vidimo sE " project is a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and compassion.

In the end, "See you" is not just a greeting. It is a message that carries a deeper meaning and reflects the shared desire to be seen and valued for who we are. Rijeka 21 hopes that more and more people will join them on this journey to create a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, is embraced and celebrated - and Katarina Line is proud to support this cause.
Together, let us work to change the world. The sky is the limit. SEE you!
