Moja Maja is more than just a ship; it’s a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the Mandić family. The story begins with Toma Mandić, a master shipbuilder who spent his life creating wooden ships. In 1991, during the turbulent times of Croatia’s war for independence, Toma embarked on his most ambitious project yet: building a 24-meter wooden motor-sailer in his backyard. For ten years, he poured his heart and soul into the ship, using the finest oak and mahogany, and crafting every detail by hand. The result was Moja Maja, a vessel that would become a symbol of his legacy.
The ship was named after Toma’s daughter, Maja Ercegović, who grew up watching her father work tirelessly on it. From the age of five, Maja was involved in the ship’s construction, and over time, she developed a deep love for the sea and sailing. Today, she is the proud owner and captain of Moja Maja, continuing her father’s legacy with the same passion and dedication.
